Wrangell is the only place in Alaska to be once ruled by the the Russians, British and Americans. Prehistoric rock carvings or petroglyphs, dating as early as 8,000 years ago, have been found here.

Petroglyph Beach in Wrangell has the highest concentration of petroglyphs in Southeast and has recently been designated a State Historic Park.
Activities
- A variety of excursions get you up close to glaciers, black and brown bears, eagles, sea lions, harbor seals, whales, salmon and halibut to name a few.
- Anan Creek is an ancient Tlingit native fishing site. The Anan estuary and Observatory is accessible by boat or plane. Anan Creek has the largest pink salmon run in Southeast Alaska, attracting significant numbers of black and brown bears to feast on the bounty.
- Garnets should be every visitor's souvenir of Wrangell. The Garnet Ledge is located at the mouth of the Stikine River and belongs to the children of Wrangell. Children and their families collect the garnets from the rock schist to share with visitors.
- Chief Shakes Island, the site of Chief Shakes Tribal House, is on the National Register as an historic monument.

- Jet boat charters offer immediate access to glaciers, lakes, and sidewaters of the Stikine River. See the river and its glaciers and valley's by air, flying through the spectacular coastal mountains. For a more leisurely trip, canoes, kayaks, and rafts are available locally.
- Wrangell's Golf Course is carved from a rain forest and its natural beauty defies description. Its ocean views, snow-capped mountains, and wildlife are remarkable. It is truly a memorable experience to play golf surrounded by all this beauty.
